Paula Deen's baby brother spills the beans on oysters, family and food - and offers up a delicious recipe for a traditional Low Country Boil (a big pot of steamed corn, potatoes, sausage, onions and shrimp).
Old Bay seasoning
12 baby red potatoes
6 ears corn, shucked and silk removed and cut in half
1 bottle domestic beer (12 ounces)
1 medium white onion, quartered
2 pounds smoked sausage, cut into 1" pieces
1 pound large raw shrimp in the shell
Fill a stockpot with enough water that would cover all the ingredients. Add the appropriate amount of Old Bay seasoning according to the container. Bring to a boil. Add the potatoes, corn, beer and onion. Reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Add the sausage and cook 20 minutes more. Add the shrimp and cook about 3 minutes, or until they turn pink. Drain the liquid into the sink and pour the boil onto a newspaper-lined table. Sprinkle with more Old Bay seasoning. Serves 4.
NOTE: For large parties, you can use one of those turkey fryers and feed an army!
